CLASS / TREATMENT DETAILS
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a dynamic system which gracefully synchronizes breath and movement. Its objective is to promote a strong flexible body and a focussed mind. This practice also eliminates toxins in the body as the various postures massage your organs in a subtle way. During the practice your attention will be drawn to your breath and towards your inner self. At the end of it you will experience a deep sense of relaxation as well as being energised. The regular practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga will result in improved cardiovascular ability, physical strength, flexibility, stamina, breath control, balance, muscle tone and loss of excess weight. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is the ideal vehicle to start gaining control of your mind – by being able to control your breath - and it also prepares you for meditation later on.
Levels
The beginners’ class is where to start if you are new to yoga or come from another style of yoga. Students will learn the fundamentals of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga practice such as Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutations), standing poses that open the body, and various seated postures. These classes will lead students to connect with their body's innate intelligence and will create a new sense of space. Most importantly students will be introduced to the concept of mindful breathing and deep relaxation. This work in class will cultivate strength, stamina, flexibility, and self-confidence, which can open the door to greater ease in life outside the yoga mat.
-> Wednesdays @ 5.10pm and 6.40pm, Saturdays @ 9am
Led Classes are suitable for students who have completed a beginner class and enjoy being led through the class by the teacher. These classes offer a unique opportunity for participants to refine the practice and to work in synchronicity with the other students - one breath, one movement. Pranayama (breath control) and Meditation are an integral part of these classes.
-> Mondays @ 5.30pm (level 1, can be led or Mysore)
-> Tuesdays @ 6.15am (level 1 & 2), Thursdays @ 5.30pm (level 1 & 2) - both classes can either be led or Mysore -> Wednesdays @ 6.40pm & Saturdays @ 9am (all levels, mixture of led and Mysore) Mysore Style Classes are intended for all students. In our case we fine-tune them to certain levels (see class times below). Mysore classes are not led. The student works alongside other students on their own program of set poses supervised and kept safe by the teacher(s). This is the traditional way Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga has been taught for thousands of years and is recommended for students to experience and enhance their own developing practice. You do not have to be a long-time practitioner to enjoy these classes, just a desire to take control of your own yoga practice and to learn about yourself. -> Mondays @ 5.30pm (level 1, can be led or Mysore) -> Tuesdays @ 6.15am (level 1 & 2), Thursdays @ 5.30pm (level 1 & 2) - both classes can either be led or Mysore -> Wednesdays @ 6.40pm & Saturdays @ 9am (all levels, mixture of led and Mysore)

Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine that originated in India several thousand years ago. Unique in its approach by assessing and treating each individual body-type, it is a highly personalized system based on natural and holistic principles. Our lifestyle, environment, work, diet and daily activities can create good health and happiness, or they can cause imbalances that lead to disease. Ayurveda emphasizes prevention of disease and rejuvenation of our body systems.
The theoretical side of Ayurveda provides insights into how to live one's life in harmony with nature and natural laws and rhythms. Its practical side gives guidelines for an intelligently regulated diet and daily routine, techniques for stress management and exercises for increased fitness and alertness to control our lives and develop radiant health.
Doris’ Ayurvedic consultation analyses your current state of health and recommends changes to your diet and daily routine supported by natural herbs or tonics. Please email yoga@b-r-e-a-t-h-e.co.nzor call Doris on 874 60 39 for an appointment or if you have any queries.
Hatha Yoga
This style is less dynamic than Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, but it is still a demanding practice. Hatha Yoga endeavours to achieve balance between body and mind, as well to free the more subtle spiritual elements of the mind through physical poses (Asanas), breathing techniquesor Pranayama (breath control), and Meditation. The practice of Hatha Yoga can help you to discover your hidden physical and mental potentials. Through the continued performance of Asanas, you will gain flexibility and strength, and you will learn to be more relaxed under stressful situations. Hatha Yoga will open the energy channels, which in turn allow spiritual energy to flow freely. Some poses massage and tone the internal organs and help to prevent diseases. Pranayama on the other hand can support you in managing breathing problems. Hatha Yoga will help you to focus your mind and prepares it for meditation (if you so desire).
Levels
Beginners classes are suitable for all those students who are new to yoga.
Level 1 classes are suitable for students who have at least one year yoga experience.
Level 2 classes are designed for students with advanced yoga experience.
The following options are available (not all apply to every class): casual, student rate, concession card, term payment, private classes (Doris).
Iyengar Style Yoga
The system developed by BKS Iyengar, uses props to support the body and aids the student into postures (asanas), in a dynamic way, allowing the body to become strong and supple. Where a student is holding an old or a new injury, the props are supportive, aiding recovery in the injured area. Specific instruction is given to align posture, bringing energy to the body and focus to the mind. In this way yoga has the effect of improving overall health and wellbeing including circulation, coordination and balance, correcting the body’s posture helping to relieve aches and pains to name just a few benefits.
